Irish pensioner arrested in Cyprus after loaded guns and crossbow found in his home

The man is being questioned by police.

AN IRISHMAN HAS been arrested in Cyprus after police found a cache of weapons which included a shotgun and a crossbow in his home.

According to Cypriot police, the 69-year-old man was detained in the Paphos area of the country on Thursday.

After obtaining a warrant, police entered the man’s home and found a number of guns, a silencer, a crossbow and ammunition.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said that it had not been contacted over the arrest.

A spokesman said: “We have not been contacted for assistance with this case but stand ready to provide any consular assistance that is required.”
